This week, my heart goes out to the victims of Hurricane Harvey. This disaster has already taken the lives of more than 30 Texans–and threatened the safety and security of thousands more.

Millions around the country are donating to disaster relief efforts, and many NOW members have expressed a desire to support victims of this tragedy. We would like to help facilitate that. With the help of Texas NOW leaders, we have compiled a list of relief organizations in the Houston area doing amazing feminist work–who would certainly appreciate your support.

If you would like to donate to Hurricane Harvey disaster relief, please consider one of these excellent organizations:
Houston Area Women’s Center – This local organization provides services to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.
LGBTQ Disaster Relief Fund – Managed by the Montrose Center in Houston, funds will go toward counseling, case management, and direct assistance for the LGBTQ community.
Lilith Fund – Donations will provide financial assistance to those seeking abortion care in Texas. With abortion access in Texas already severely restricted, the disaster will create even more barriers to obtaining quality care.
YWCA of Greater Houston – This organization provides emergency housing and other essential services to women, girls, and the elderly.
Easter Seals of Greater Houston – Donate to their disaster relief fund to fund services for people with disabilities.
In times of tragedy, disadvantaged groups face even bigger challenges to recovery. I encourage you to give in a way that aligns with our shared values as feminists–to organizations who will rebuild with women and marginalized groups in mind.

Thank you so much for all that you do.
